Dr. Kirsty Alderson (PhD, CPsychol) is a Chartered and Registered Forensic Psychologist. She is mainly involved in undertaking psychological assessments with male and female children, adolescents and adults for Local Authorities and family court. She assesses clients who present with trauma, self-injury, going missing, substance use, child sexual exploitation, harmful sexual behaviour and aggression, including intimate partner violence. She also undertakes cognitive assessment, personality disorder, and structured risk assessments, and delivers therapeutic intervention aimed at assisting clients to address aggression and harmful sexual behaviour. Furthermore, she is trained to deliver Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to adults and adolescents who present with trauma and other forms of distress. Kirsty is involved in conducting research, with a PhD in the areas of child sexual exploitation, poly-victimisation and resilience. Finally, she is involved in devising and delivering various training events.
Prior to CCATS, Kirsty worked for the prison service for 10 years. She worked with adult offenders, supervising and delivering offender intervention programmes (substances, violence, sexual offending). Kirsty also undertook structured forensic risk assessments, conducted cognitive functioning assessments and regularly provided evidence at Discretionary Lifer Panels.
