The family therapy we offer at CCATS is tailor-made to the family. We are aware that every family is unique and therefore the needs of one family will be different to the needs of another. As with one-to-one work, our therapists work in a non-judgemental way, offering nothing less than unconditional, positive regard and a genuine desire to want to facilitate any family in finding harmony.
The referral process is the same as with any referral to CCATS. We happily accept self-referrals, as well as referrals from social care, GP surgeries, post-adoption services and any other service provider, on the basis the family have given their consent.
A mutually convenient time will be set aside for an initial appointment, where the family will meet with their therapist. This appointment lasts approximately 1 hour. During this appointment, the therapist will take some detail as to reason for referral. You can explore with the therapist what your expectations are, in terms of what you hope to achieve by engaging in therapy. You will also get the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. If ongoing appointments are appropriate, the therapist will arrange with you a weekly time slot that is mutually convenient.
A review will normally take place around week 4 or 5, where you will summarise what has been explored with the therapist and this gives you the opportunity to reflect on what has been covered so far. It is usually a good time to assess how many further appointments are likely to be required.
